[VIDEO] Brian Garner is one of the many candidates for 6th Ward Alderman in 2015 and while he was once a ward superintendant for the city department of streets and sanitation he also is on the city's no-hire list. A fact we learned on our local FOX-TV affiliate last night:Last year, the city placed Garner on its 'do-not-rehire' list. The list includes nearly 500 former employees caught cheating, taking bribes or screwing up so bad that they are banned from being hired again.Garner hopes to replace 6th Ward Ald. Roderick Sawyer in the 2015 who only stated that the voters will decide whether or not Garner's past should matter. He's correct about that as Garner is correct that while an Alderman is a city employee, they're still elected by the people.
Garner, a former ward superintendent for the Department of Streets and Sanitation, says he was asked to resign after he was caught driving his city vehicle to Navy Pier when he wasn't on the clock.
"I was using this vehicle at times when I wasn't authorized to use it. I apologize for that and I accept what happened," Garner told FOX 32's Dane Placko.
But Garner says that incident shouldn't disqualify him from representing the sixth ward as alderman.
"To me, it depends on what the situation was for. Now, if I got caught maybe taking money or taking bribes, or shaking down a business, then that's something a little different."
Would Mr. Garner's status on the city's "do-not-rehire" list be a determining factor as to whether or not you would vote for him?
