Comedy clubs along 79th Street

Another idea from the CAPCC blog:
Wouldn't be a great idea if comedy clubs popped up and down 79Th Street in Chatham to give people a fun place to go and venues for upcoming talent and the community to free itself of the blight?
People in Chatham needs some entertainment. How about The Original Kings of Comedy come into Chatham to make us laugh? People would come from all over to see them. Of course parking might be an issue if we have comedy clubs operating into late night!

BTW, I really wish I can find an image from HBO's Def Comedy Jam or any black comedian performing at a comedy club. That might make this idea a lot more appealing!

  1. This is a big joke. A promotion group has been trying to purchase the Buckwheat lounge on 79th and came to CAPCC and they blew theses guys off. Secondly, several of the block clubs along 79th do no want to see any additional venues(i.e. 79th Evans).

There are venues that offer comedy shows and other live entertainment. The "East of the Ryan" has and continues under new management to offer a variety of entertainment and Curt's BBQ offers live entertainment.

I think the writer needs to get out more.

  2. It's not a crazy idea...The north side (in some neighborhoods) are known for sports bars...why not Chatham for something other than fish & chicken places?

There ARE Christian comedians, and have had concerts in Chicago. so you could theoretically have some here.

We have lots of talent, so there might be lot of opportunities for "amateurs".

What else are you gonna put there? i have heard a lot of what neighborhood does NOT want. Until someone steps up and actually brings in something "the community" (which i suspect can be at times a loud few) actually wants (whatever that may be), we will have these other ideas tossed out there.

  3. I wonder why the resistance? The more we reject ideas such as this the more stagnation may took root in our community. We won't get anywhere very soon if we just talk about what we don't want!

  4. No I never said it was a crazy idea. What I said is it is a joke for them to bring it up when they have been approached by individuals who wanted to bring in something new. What CAPCC is interested in is hooking up some close friends.

As I mentioned we have venues that offer a variety of entertainment and several have significant contributions to the music industry(i.e. Apartment lounge). Before you knock these places you need to visit them and see for yourself. If Diddy, Jamie Foxx, Ice Cube can come and hangout in Chatham why cant you.

Yes I believe that I and others who chose not to live on Halsted, Broadway or Clark street have a right to voice our opposition and those of you who want that atmosphere need to move your asses to that area.
