Wal-Mart coming to the south side?

Check out these scans from the August 2008 edition of Real Estate Plus that was published by The Chatham Group, LLC. This article is about the politics of bringing Wal-Mart onto the south side and locations where Wal-Mart could build including two sites that have been mentioned on this blog. The well known location on 83rd and Stewart at Chatham Market and 111th and Bishop Ford (Calumet) Expressway.

The first scan has pictures from Chatham Market on 83rd. This is up the street to the East of Simeon High School.

This second scan has more pics of the proposed sight of Chicago's next Wal-Mart.

The last scan has the locations of all proposed south side locations for any new Wal-Marts including 83rd and 111th. If they all got built no one would have long to travel to either shop or work (well jobs are the emphasis). Pullman wouldn't be a bad location and Englewood wouldn't be a bad location.

63rd & Halsted would be a great spot for a new Wal-Mart, although I would hope that given Englewood's former status as the city's other downtown, perhaps Wal-Mart could be persauded not to take up too much space. Especially with the possibility of making it a bustling neighborhood once again.

You know that's an idea, Englewood "South Looped"!

Anyway if one was built right on 63rd & State Street that's another interesting possibility as those who live on the north end. Just a short bus trip or drive from the north end of the ward and you're there.

Although to be sure maybe two or three of these locations are to be a sure thing. I can't imagine all five of these locations being built especially if three of them are built in relatively close proximity to each other.
