Robber armed with shotgun caught on video

Chgo Breaking News:
The robbery of a South Side dry cleaners by a man wielding a shotgun this week was caught on video now being used by Chicago police in their investigation.

No one was injured at the Rhodes Cleaners in the 500 block of East 79th Street about 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, but the robber got away with between $500-$1,000.
Do you guys think our community is in for a rough summer? :(

  1. Yes and I have to ask the question again. Is it time for a zero tolerance stance on 79th?

  2. Zero tolerance in the sense that hanging out, public drunkeness, etc will not be tolerated period. Start making checkpoint stops and checking who comes through here will send the message that you cannot come in Chatham and commit crime.

  3. Is that through police or citizens? If we focus the police at the parks, then we might have even more break-ins, scammers, robberies, etc.

We need to have more CITIZENS out there, watching and KNOWING our youth. It's too scary to confront someone on your own, but a few carign citizens in a place can stand up together. Some of the youth just need some gentle disicipline, but they need to see SOMEONE.

What you're suggesting Worlee, could backfire, and make people (especially the next generation) NOT want to live here. And if Chatham becomes less popular, desperate proprty owners who might get forclosed on will rent to less desirable people, and not take the time to provide resources for them.

  4. We do need a bit of both. Police and the neighborhood watch!

  5. The police already perform "missions" seat belt checks, drunk driving, etc. What I'm asking is should they be ramped up and concentrated on Chatham. Yes, it will offend some but others might not feel offended and actually feel safer. The idea is floating out here as we speak.
