Elderly man dies of cold exposure in S. Side

Sun-Times:
Antoine Edgar, of the 300 block of East 70th Place, was found dead at his home in the Park Manor neighborhood and pronounced dead there at 8 p.m. Thursday, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office said.

An autopsy conducted Friday determined Edgar died primarily of cold exposure but also suffered coronary atherosclerosis. His death was ruled an accident, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Neighbors called police after noticing Edgar's mail piling up outside his door, according to police News Affairs Officer JoAnn Taylor.

Edgar is the fifth Cook County resident whose death was caused at least partially by cold exposure since early Nov. 11. The others were a 46-year-old Far South Side man, a 67-year-old South Side man, a 21-year-old North Side man and a 48-year-old South Side woman.
Let's make sure that we have some working heaters at home and stay safe as well. I'm sure there are city services out there and I'll be on the lookout for them and surely JP will be to for those who are without heat.
