If you've got con-con on your mind in November then I say you should read this. My position on this is in favor of a con-con. However between now and November 4, I want to look at any argument for or against.Every 20 years, the state must schedule a vote on whether a constitutional convention should be called to rewrite the Illinois constitution. That's just one of many provisions that make the 1970 constitution an excellent framework for governing Illinois. And that's why residents should vote No on the convention question on the ballot Nov. 4.
The simple fact is: No compelling reason exists to junk the state constitution and spend perhaps up to $80 million to hash out the powers of the three branches of government and a new bill of rights. We have a good constitution that serves the state. That's why there is no hew and cry for a new one.
