More than 150 take City Hall buyouts

Facing a shortage of money needed to run the city, Mayor Richard Daley in July offered a voluntary severance program for non-union workers. The mayor needs to close a projected $420 million hole in the city's checkbook.

Some 156 workers in the administration took up the boss on his offer, according to documents obtained by the Chicago Tribune under the state's Freedom of Information Act.

These employees will get severance payments totaling more than $2.6 million. The city, in turn, will save more than $10.8 million in salaries.
