Some info on the city sticker sales...

At the Alderman's office from this past Friday. Info provided by Ald. Lyle herself in an email...
Today more than 828 citizens purchased their City Vehicle Stickers and/or Residential Parking passes at the 6th Ward Service Office. As this was our second City Sticker date this year, we were surprised at the tremendous turnout. The first date was in June when normally most of our Seniors purchase their Stickers, (they don't like waiting until the last minute) and we served over 400 people. This year however many residents did not get their renewal notices in the mail and it appears that accounted for the overwhelming numbers. 311 gives callers several locations for non-Loop City Sticker sales, as a result a good percentage of the purchasers live outside of the Ward.
...
Finally, if there were a way to predict the number of persons who would show up to purchase stickers at my office, we could enlist additional volunteers, obtain more personnel from the Clerk's Office or even find a larger location. For those that called before they came (hundreds) we explained the process and the financial conditions. We also helped hundreds fill out their forms to assist in the process.

As an extreme example of the lengths we go to to service our citizens, a resident with a cane forgot her license plate number and my 13 yr. old nephew walked 4 blocks to find her car and get the number. She wasn't parked 4 blocks away as she had erroneously told him and when he returned to tell her, he couldn't find the car, she remembered where she parked and he went back out and retrieved the number. She was very appreciative and he was tired but very proud that he had been able to help someone today.

Today's crowd was by far the largest we have ever had over the years and will force us to re-evaluate our procedures before next year (parking was a big problem for this volume). We hope however that the wait was not unbearable and that all who came were successfully served. I know for a fact that the staff and volunteers worked their tails off attempting to accomodate all who walked through our doors.
Well one question answered, there were some from other wards who came for their stickers and parking permits.

Let me just say the wait wasn't unbearable. If I was impatient that's on me. Surely some could have waited patiently for 30+ minutes to handle their city clerk business. While the wait might have been long once a customer gets to the front of the line the transaction should be painless and quick as it was in my case.

It was great the the alderman's office and city clerk employees and I saw this, did everything they could to assist and accommodate those who dropped by to purchase their city stickers. There were some other things going on in the alderman's office as indicated in her email, but let's save that for another time shall we? It's kind of interesting to see what an alderman does and it's captured in one paragraph and probably just one day out of who knows how many.
